Hi, I’m Sophie –
the person behind the practice
A compassionate and down-to-earth therapist, I offer support both in-person and online from The Therapy Hideaway in the heart of the Cotswolds, Cheltenham. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel truly heard and supported.
I studied Psychotherapy and Counselling for three years at Plymouth Marjon University, graduating with a first-class honours degree. My training introduced me to a variety of therapeutic approaches and theoretical frameworks, all backed by an established evidence base for best practice, which allows me to tailor support to suit your unique needs. This foundation means I have and continue to work with people facing a wide range of mental health conditions.
During my studies, I had the privilege of working with trauma specialists and offering counselling at a boarding school, specialising in wellbeing and welfare. These experiences shaped my understanding of compassionate, person-centred care, which I bring forward into my work today.
After graduating, I joined the boarding school as their School Welfare Officer and Counsellor. In this role, I worked closely with the safeguarding team, supported students, delivered training for staff, and led PSHE lessons, helping to promote mental health awareness across the entire school community.
I’ve also enjoyed guest lecturing for psychotherapy/counselling undergraduates, sharing real-world insights on safeguarding, welfare, and mental health in organisations – a role that gives me the privilege of contributing to the next generation of mental health professionals.
In recent years, I’ve grown my private practice, working with people of all ages – from adolescents to the elderly. I offer support for a broad spectrum of mental health conditions and life experiences, always with a warm, down-to-earth, and compassionate approach.
Whether you’re seeking support for a specific challenge, or simply need a space to reflect and begin the healing journey, I’m here to help.
Meet Murphy –
comfort companion (in training!)
I’m so excited to introduce you to Murphy, The Therapy Hideaway’s newest practitioner pup! He’s currently in training to become a therapy dog, having a special gift for bringing comfort and joy to those around him.
Right now, Murphy’s very busy learning all the important skills he’ll need to provide gentle, calming support – whether that’s offering an uplifting paw, a comforting cuddle, or simply being a reassuring, playful presence.
Whilst still in training, Murphy already has a natural talent for spreading happiness; just look at those eyes! I am so looking forward to the journey of training him to become a full-fledged therapy dog so we can support you – together.
The Therapy Hideaway –
more than a space; a place for you.
Nestled in a private and peaceful place is The Therapy Hideaway – a calming spot free from interruptions, meaning we can focus entirely on you.
It’s been designed to be a cosy, calming retreat from the outside world; a gentle sanctuary where you can feel safe, comfortable, and truly at ease.
Surrounded by soft, earthy greens and warm, soothing tones, the space invites you to settle in with a comfy chair, hot drink in hand, feeling important and understood. Gentle lighting and peaceful touches create a sense of calm, offering you a quiet corner where you can reflect, share, and simply be.
Whether you're seeking support, clarity, or a place to pause, this is a space just for us – a welcoming haven where healing begins.
